Maths-Whizz Goes Postal and Mead School Gets Inspected

30,000 schools will shortly get to read about Maths-Whizz Online Tutoring in the Autumn 2007 edition of Royal Mail’s schools newsletter, Teacher’s Post.

Sherfield School’s Pat Preedy is quoted in the Teacher’s Post piece – she, and teachers from Mead School, The Hampshire School, and new subscribers Langtree School, are flying the flag.

This is great news for us. As we don’t formally advertise the new schools online service we’re trying to build grassroots interest with the help of teachers and parents. Teacher’s Post will help enormously, as will the recent Independent Schools’ Inspectorate report on Mead School which specifically mentioned our online tutoring service for schools (though, unfortunately, not by name).

Earlier this autumn the Independent Schools’ Inspectorate reported on their 2007 inspection of the Mead School, here. By the time of the inspection, the Mead School had been using Maths-Whizz Teachers’ Resource software for some time. Crucially, the school had also been using our Online Tutoring Service for two terms.

The quotes below are taken from the inspection report:

“Pupils develop competent skills in ICT which they use to good effect, especially in a commercial mathematics package designed for them to work independently and at their own rate.”

“Effective use is made of this information to plan the curriculum, for example, by the introduction of a commercial computer scheme to enable pupils to improve their individual mathematical understanding.”

The commercial computer scheme introduced to support pupils’ mathematical development enables parents to access directly details of their children’s progress within the scheme.”

The inspection report independently highlighted some of the features that we consider key to the success of Maths-Whizz, which is pretty cool. We hope that more of the schools signing up to the service get this kind of official feedback and that inspection reports, along with the Teacher’s Post, help to spread the word.
