Maths-Whizz Quick Start Guide

There are loads of features to try in Maths-Whizz! Read on for our introduction to Maths-Whizz Tutoring.

Starting out
To begin, students and parents log in to Maths-Whizz using the Login area on the Whizz website.

Usernames and passwords are sent to you in the Maths-Whizz order confirmation. The parent username is always the email address with which you registered, the student username is always a combination of the first name and the first letter of the given name (e.g. ‘MickeyM99′).

Students - When you log in you will see three options on a signpost: go to your bedroom, load your console, or log out.

Your bedroom is where you create your personal Whizz space online – keep pets, pot plants, change the wallpaper, etc. The console is where you can keep track of your achievements with Maths-Whizz lessons, and challenge buddies to do beat you in maths exercises. You can access your Maths-Whizz Tutoring from both the bedroom and the console.

Your Console

Start Your Lessons (’Tutor’)
The ‘Tutor’ panel is where you learn maths!

When you begin Maths-Whizz you need to find your level so we can give you the right lessons. So before we start each main maths subject we’ll do a quick test. You’ll get a few questions to answer. Take your time to think about the answer, but don’t worry if you don’t know it and don’t ask for any help. You can click “Don’t know” if you get stuck. Once we’ve found your level you’ll get your lesson. Depending on how often you use Maths-Whizz it will take a few sessions to find your level in all the Topics. You’ll then be able to go straight to your lessons when you next log in.

When you pass an interactive exercise we’ll give you some exam-style questions to see how much you’ve learnt. Pass this too and we’ll move you onto the next level. You get extra credits for passing the exam-style questions, so it’s worth taking care!

If you leave a lesson half way through a exercise you will have to restart the exercise from the beginning the next time you login.
Choose your Whizz Character
You can choose a Whizz character to represent you in the leaderboards. Click “Edit Profile” in the console and click a character on the next screen.

Replay
Replay is a great way of improving your scores and times and earning credits in the process! When you select “Replay” in the console you will see the exercises you’ve recently completed and you can scroll back to see older ones. Move your mouse over an image to see your personal best score and time in the exercise, click to retry it.

Beat your Buddies
Do you have friends who use Maths-Whizz? You can add them to your personal leader-board! You’ll need to know their Whizz names (usernames – e.g. ‘MickeyM99’). Click “Add buddy” and type in the Whizz name and we’ll invite them to be your Buddy.

You’ll be able to challenge buddies, and see how they’re doing in the “My Buddies” leader board. To challenge you don’t need to do anything except do well in your lessons! When you finish an animated exercise that your buddy has also finished, we’ll compare your scores and times. If you have done better than your buddy, he or she , your buddy will be challenged them to beat your score. All they need to do is go to Replay and try the exercise again.

You’ll be able to see your challenges by going to Replay. From there you’ll see a “Challenges” button, click on this and you’ll see all the exercises you’ve been challenged on.

Maths-Whizz leader boards
Want to see how you’re doing compared to other Whizzers? The leader boards will show you how you compare with your buddies, other Whizzers at your school and the top ten of Whizz. To see Whizzers at your school you’ll need to ask your parent to link you to your school by going to their account page.
