Make Maths a resolution for the New Year!

We hope that you’ve all had a refreshing and fun holiday period and are feeling ready for the year ahead. A great way for you to start your student’s year would be to get them into regular habits of using Maths-Whizz. Many students will have had a break from learning over the holidays, so now is an important time to get them back into their study habits before they forget everything they’ve learned!

One of the best ways in which you can do this is to create a schedule for your student. Choose 2 or 3 days of the week when you know that they are going to be around and build Maths-Whizz into that. Children between 5 and 12 years old respond well to scheduled routine as it means they can anticipate their lessons and know what to expect. We look forward to seeing your children progress with us through 2007 and wish them all the best, whether they have SATs, the 11+, or just their

Government report says ‘personalised’ learning is key!

A review led by the head of the education inspectorate, Ofsted, wants a radical change in the way our children are taught that matches the Maths-Whizz method. The report’s calls for a “highly structured and responsive approach to each child’s learning” and this is exactly what Maths-Whizz does. Our unique assessment allows us to tailor each student’s tutoring program to fit their needs.

Explaining Maths-Whizz

Many of you are probably curious as to just how it is that we go about teaching our students. We’ve decided that with each newsletter we will use this section to explain the Maths-Whizz method and give you further insight into our service. However, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us if you have any questions regarding any aspect of Maths-Whizz that we have not covered here!

How your child advances using Maths-Whizz

When a student successfully completes an animated exercise they will only progress if they do well in the exam section that comes immediately after. This is an important feature of Maths-Whizz – maths skills are more useful if they can be applied in formal tests. A pass moves them on to the next stage in that topic, whilst a fail will give them another go at the exam section. If your student is complaining of being given the same exercises each time then you know that they are not spending enough time on the exam section. Try encouraging them by letting them know they can earn up to 30 credits for only 5 exam questions – and when they pass they can go shopping!
