Key Stage 1
Maths-Whizz for Key Stage 1 covers all Primary National Strategy objectives and Primary Framework Blocks for Reception, Year 1 and Year 2.
Maths-Whizz lessons for KS1 are primarily visual.
- On-screen text is kept to a minimum, because a child's maths and reading skills often progress at different rates.
- All on-screen text is accompanied by voice-over narration. This ensures that no child is unable to complete a maths lesson due to limited reading skills.
- Visuals in KS1 are clear and friendly. Animals, nature scenes and other playful imagery are used throughout. Interactivity is kept uncomplicated so as to be easy for young children to grasp.
- Exercises at this Key Stage are simple and straightforward. Questions are short and uncomplicated, as well. Rather than asking "How many ducks are in the pond," Maths-Whizz will just ask "how many?"
- Maths-Whizz aims to build confidence and teach children that learning maths can be fun and rewarding, on-screen help in KS1 is mostly visual and is designed to encourage success. Without blatantly giving away the answer, on-screen help points the child firmly in the right direction.
- In all, Maths-Whizz for KS1 provides a solid foundation for the more challenging material covered in KS2.
