Can I trust Maths-Whizz?

Hilary Koll and Steve Mills are experts in mathematics education, both in the UK and internationally.They have an extensive range of experience in maths education, having taught at all levels from the early years to post-graduate and in-service training for teachers. As consultants and award-winning authors they seek to promote enthusiasm for mathematics and strive to help people to understand and enjoy the subject.

Hilary Koll (B.Ed. Hons)
Hilary was Mathematics Co-ordinator and Leading Maths teacher in a Berkshire primary school before training as a Numeracy Consultant prior to the introduction of the National Numeracy Strategy. She has also worked as a part-time Lecturer in Mathematics Education at the University of Reading, teaching on undergraduate, post-graduate and in-service training courses. With a particular interest in gifted and talented students across the 5–16 age–range, she is now a full-time writer and consultant. In conjunction with Steve Mills she has written over 150 titles for a variety of publishers.

Steve Mills (B.A. Hons, P.G.C.E., M.Ed.)
Steve was a teacher of both primary and secondary age children and an LEA Maths Advisory Support Teacher before joining the University of Reading as a Lecturer in Mathematics Education. Here he worked with both under-graduate and post-graduate students in their preparation for teaching mathematics in schools, together with in-service work for practising teachers. During this time he began to write mathematics books for both teachers and children. He is now a full-time writer and consultant in mathematics education. In 2003 Steve and Hilary won both the “Secondary Numeracy” category and the “Overall Excellence” prize at the Basic Skills Book Awards for materials designed to improve numeracy skills.

Bob Gardner
Bob has over 25 years of teaching experience in both primary and secondary education. He featured on the video “Maths Counts”, which helps to raise the standard of maths teaching in schools. Bob is the Deputy Head Teacher of a Beacon School in Slough, recognised nationally as one of the best-performing schools in the UK. Teachers throughout the country used Bob's first publications during the introduction of the National Curriculum in 1988. His first international success, “The Maths Pack” (with Ron van der Meer) soon followed. This unique, award-winning publication was the first maths book that bridged the gap between interactive learning and traditional “pop-up” books. There followed the highly successful MathsMaster 3+, 5+ and 7+ series. To date, over a million copies of his books are in circulation across Europe, the USA and Asia, encouraging youngsters and parents to enjoy and improve their understanding of mathematics.
