The role of Artificial Intelligence in virtual maths tutoring

Whizz presentation at What the Research Says

Whizz was invited to present at the UCL Knowledge Lab on the topic of artificial intelligence in Education. The panel of expert speakers explored various themes raised in the recent report Intelligence Unleashed, which makes the case for using AI to advance learning and teaching.

In his presentation, Whizz’s Head of Product Junaid Mubeen drew on Whizz’s history and expertise as a pioneering education company to address the question of what AI can and can not do in Education. Whizz exists to raise standards in mathematics; we believe AI has exciting potential, but only if it is deployed in servitude of our educational goals.

Whizz was recently involved in the EU-funded project iTalk2Learn, in which partners developed an open-source intelligent tutoring system using advanced AI techniques. In his talk, Junaid shares some of the insights gained from that project and presents a balanced but ultimately optimistic view of the future role of AI in virtual tutoring.
